What
is an Internet cookie?
Cookies have, for some reason, gained a rather sinister image. But they really
are simple and harmless. A cookie is just one or more pieces of information
stored as text strings on your machine. A Web server sends you a cookie and
the browser stores it. The browser then returns the cookie to the server the
next time the page is referenced.
The most common use of a cookie is to store a user ID.
Is there any more to cookies than that? No. They are simply text strings.
Are cookies harmful? No.
They are just short text strings, and they can often make browsing better by
allowing a server to recall any customized information you have set.
Are cookies common? Yes.
Can cookies transmit computer
viruses? No. They are just text strings.
Can a company read my personal
information from my hard disk with a cookie? No. Only the cookie that is sent
in the first place is returned to the server. It is not modified or manipulated
in any way.

If I
turn off my computer during the course, will the portions of the course that
I have completed be saved?
If you are taking the Marijuana Course or Safety Belt Course, none of your session is saved. In other
words, if you leave during the course, you will need to start over again.
If you are taking the Traffic Safety Course it is OK to turn off your computer and come back to the program later as long as you do not delete the cookies off of your hard drive. This is where your session information is stored.
Your computer will save
information of the last chapter that you completed. If you leave during a portion
of a chapter, that chapter information will not be stored, and you will have
to do that chapter over again.

When
I came back to finish the course, it shows that I haven't even started. What
happened?
One of three things occurred:
1. You (or someone) deleted the cookies off of your hard drive (see above).
2. It has been longer than three days since you began the course, and the cookies
were automatically deleted.
3. You were taking the Marijuana Course, which is not saved. You must complete
it during the same session as when you started.
In either case, you will
need to begin the entire course over again.

How
long do I have to complete a course from the time I begin?
For the Marijuana Course, the course must be completed during the same session
as when you started.
For Traffic Safety and Safety
Belt courses, you have three days from the date you begin to finish the course.
After that, you will have to take the entire course over again.
